My mornings are generally frantic and chaotic because I work from home, so one of my resolutions for the next year is to establish and maintain a healthier morning routine. It feels like we are always in a race against time, and I inevitably spend the first 30 minutes of my workday making beds, clearing away dishes, and tackling laundry, which really hurts my productivity.
Despite the fact that we manage to get through everything each morning without someone having an epic meltdown, it feels like we are constantly in a race against time.

If you’re trying to streamline your mornings , here are my favorite morning hacks to start your day off right!
1. SLEEP WITH THE CURTAINS OPEN
Did you know that exposing yourself to natural light within an hour of waking up can assist to reduce the creation of melatonin, boost the production of cortisol, and release serotonin, leaving you feeling energised and prepared to face whatever the day brings? If you’re searching for early tips to get your day off to a good start, consider sleeping with the curtains open. A decent amount of morning sunshine can also help prevent sleeplessness by re-setting your circadian cycle.
There are alternatives if you can’t stand the thought of waking up in a bright environment or sleep in a room without a window. When you wake up, take a stroll around your neighborhood, have breakfast on your back terrace, or get a light therapy lamp.
2. PLAN AHEAD
Although this isn’t exactly breaking news, spending 15-20 minutes every evening organizing and preparing will help you save a ton of time later on when you’re rushed and weary. Every evening before going to bed, I load/unload the dishwasher, prepare our breakfast, and pack the kids‘ lunches.
I then decide on my attire, arrange my training gear, fill up my water bottle, and unlace my running shoes so that nothing will slow me down when my alarm goes off. I also set my shoes, pocketbook, and coat by the front door. My daughter has also developed the practice of choosing her hair accessories and ties, setting out her school clothes, and placing her school bag at the front door.
3. START THE DAY WITH 16-OZS OF WATER
While it might be tempting to seek for coffee and sugar first thing in the morning for a small energy boost, this can cause you to crash and burn a few of hours later. Our bodies are naturally dehydrated in the morning. Instead, sip on a glass of lemon water to help your digestive system start the day off right. Then, stuff yourself with protein-rich foods to keep your blood sugar levels constant and give you sustained energy so you can concentrate.
4. LISTEN TO SOMETHING
Another excellent method to get ready for the day is to stream your favorite music, an uplifting podcast, or an engaging audiobook. We continuously stream music through Sonos speakers in all of the main areas of our home, which helps to create a joyful and optimistic ambiance while also boosting my energy and motivation. Test it out!
5. GET MOVING
Moving your body for at least 30 minutes is another of my favorite morning tricks. Morning workouts make you feel happier and more mentally aware, prepare you for the day, and increase your energy and productivity. Since I find that if I put off working out until the afternoon or early evening, I will inevitably come up with an excuse not to, I like to work out as soon as I get out of bed in the morning.
